Editor’s comments: Weiyang’s photo is the winner today with his picture of the theme – Flow. It stands out from the rest because it lends a sense of fun and playfulness into the scene. Comparing it to Kangli’s and Adeline’s, they were more abstract representations of the theme and did not connect with me. The head-on approach, compared to the actions amid the fountain in Weiyang’s scene led me to put it up as the photo of the day.

Editor’s comments: Rachel’s photo stood out because of its clarity and completeness. While it was yet another weather photo, it showed a different facet, with a focus on people’s reactions to it. The empty road brought the focal point to the lady with her umbrella. At first glance, it seemed as though she was kiasu and wanted double protection from the rain. But on reading the caption that she was protecting herself from a leaky bus shelter, it added a new dimension to the photo and enhanced my understanding of the situation.

Sitting about: Mr Chan, 56, and his pals sit around at the newly opened extension to Jurong Point. They work as cleaners at NTU and often take their lull periods at Jurong Point to get a break from their work.

Little Smoke: Two ladies take a quick puff outside Jurong Point shopping centre during lunch hours. Singapore is embarking on a campaign to make the country smoke-free and have updated the list of restrictions since last year. They include a complete ban of smoking in outdoor eateries and smoking is strictly allowed only at designated “smoking areas”. It is no longer safe to assume that public space means smoking is permitted.

Not just for kids: By day, children occupy the playtoys but at night, grownups take over and hang out at the open space of a playground in Senette Estate. Warnings of ‘for-children’ only are ignored as the group of friends, mostly young adults, gather by the sole lamp  near midnight in this private housing area in Macpherson.

Lighting up: Mr Wang, a vegetable seller at the Beo Crescent Market prepares to go home after a day’s work. He has been selling vegetables for the past 40 years. “Business is bad today, still a lot of vegetables left,” he said.
