130209 – Picture of the day

Editor’s Comment: Luck. An unpredictable phenomenon that causes an event to happen beyond one’s control.
Wei Yang and Kangli goes into Chinese culture and religion. Simple and easily recognizable. But I am looking for pictures that highlight the sense of ‘no-control’ over a situation.
Rachel’s image captured people’s reaction nicely. But the expressions confuse me. They look amused and shocked. Is it good or bad luck then? Rachel’s idea seem to be, “99% skill, 1% luck.”
Adeline’s event has the elements of a newsworthy photo. Uniformed men, lady with child in distress. But i wonder what bad luck is she in? The event is not shown. Not so clear.
As always, Alex’s sense of aesthetics tops the entries. Clever, commendable thought process behind it. If my assumption is right about his idea, then Alex’s picture gives fresh treatment to the word. But, my assumption cannot be extended to other viewers.
Kevin shows me a situation that matches the definition. Arugably, his image needs deeper intepretation. But compared to Adeline’s and Alex’s, Kevin comes across clearer. He gives me the situation, the environment and the subjects affected. The onlookers and the moving traffic- all these are interesting elements that add to the strength of your idea.
Lucky of you to spot it, Kevin.
